No Fare Changes Planned ... Especially Based on Weight

I felt the need to put up a post to ease the minds of many who are worried about changing fares for the HSR.

Recently a "faux news" blog posted a fictional news story indicating that the Hamilton Street Railway would be implementing a fare structure based on the weight of those riding aboard Hamilton city buses. This story is a work of fiction and is in no way the truth.

The HSR is not planning, nor will it be implementing, any sort of fare structure based on this premise.

The fare for the Hamilton Street Railway has not been raised in several years and is among the lowest in the region. In fact most transit agencies charge more than $3.00. Hamilton's base adult fare of $2.55 and the Presto (ticket) fare is $2.00.

For a comparison, let's look at the various Adult fares in the region:

Burlington $3.25
Brampton $3.25
Durham Region $2.90
Hamilton $2.55
Mississauga $3.00
Niagara Falls$2.50
Oakville $3.25
St. Catharines $2.50
Toronto $3.00
York Region $3.75

The HSR is not planning, nor will it be implementing, any sort of fare structure based on weight.
