Winter 2012 Schedule Changes

The Hamilton Street Railway released their Winter 2012 Bus News and the timetables for the winter. There are a few minor changes in store, a new fare structure, holiday schedules as well as the return of FREE service on New Year's Eve.

Below are the changes that will take effect Sunday December 30th, 2012.

One additional early morning trip from Bell Manor Loop has been added meaning that transit users can arrive downtown even earlier to make their connection.

The previous 5:18 p.m. trip has been shifted two minutes earlier from Upper Kenilworth and Limeridge.

Two trips between 5:30pm and 6:15pm have been modified slightly for better connections at the GO Centre with GO Transit.

Additional early morning and late afternoon trips have been added resulting in service from approximately 8:00am to 7:30pm.

Tue Dec 25 - Special Christmas service
Wed Dec 26 - Regular Saturday service
Thu Dec 27 - Regular Weekday Service
Fri Dec 28 - Regular Weekday Service
Sat Dec 29 - Regular Saturday service
Sun Dec 30 - Regular Sunday/Holiday service
Mon Dec 31 - Regular Weekday service
Tue Jan 01 - Regular Sunday/Holiday service

On Christmas Day and New Years Day holidays limited services will not run. These routes include '10 B-Line Express,' '12 Wentworth,' ' 16 Ancaster,' '18 Waterdown,' '20 A-Line Express,' '44 Rymal,' '51 University' and '52A Dundas Local.'

Once again, the HSR will be providing free service after 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Monday December 31st. As New Year's Eve falls on a weekday this year buses will operate on the Regular Weekday Schedules which means most HSR routes will operate from the Downtown core until 1:00 a.m.

The HSR is implementing a Fare Parity Policy in accordance with the Transportation Standards regulations made under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

The Voluntary Pay Policy for persons using Personal Mobility Devices (PMD), including 4-point canes, walkers, scooters and wheelchairs, on the HSR and free fare for CNIB cardholders, will be eliminated effective as of January 1, 2013.

Every passenger travelling on the HSR or DARTS must be using one of the available fare media.

HSR’s Support Persons Policy and Support Person ID Cards will still be valid. This Support Person must travel with the passenger for their entire trip. For more information on Support Persons Policy, please contact ATS (Accessible Transportation Services) at 905-529-1212 or visit

In order to provide more economical fares to Seniors (65+ years of age), the HSR and ATS will offer a discounted PRESTO Senior e-purse fare and a Senior PRESTO Monthly Pass fare.

As the HSR is working to eliminate paper fare media and move all our passengers to the PRESTO card, we will not be issuing Senior paper tickets or Senior Monthly passes but be offering this discount when they use a PRESTO card.

Free PRESTO cards will be issued to Seniors at our Customer Service Centre, for a limited time, when loading a Senior e-purse or a Senior Monthly Pass. When using the PRESTO card with proper ID, they will pay $1.65 single ride or $20.50 for a Monthly Pass.

City of Hamilton Seniors will still be offered the Senior Annual Pass (65+ years of age) or the Golden Age Pass (80+ years of age). If you chose not to take advantage of these Senior discounted fares, you must pay Adult fare.

The Customer Service Centre at 36 Hunter St. E. provides customers with Timetables and Transit Guides, Photo ID Cards, Day Passes, PRESTO cards and fare-related information. They do not sell paper Tickets or Passes. At the Customer Service Centre location you can load money on your PRESTO e-purse and it is the only location to load our HSR PRESTO Monthly Bus Passes.

Mobile formatted schedules for winter 2012 will be updated overnight on Saturday December 29th. The mobile schedule page will be modified on Christmas Day to display the one-day schedules.
